AI & Editorial Assistance Policy
Our Approach
Knelstrom embraces emerging technologies where they enhance the efficiency and quality of our work, while recognising that journalism requires human judgement, accountability and editorial responsibility.
Artificial intelligence (AI) may be used to assist certain aspects of our editorial workflow. However, AI does not replace human editorial oversight.
The Editor remains responsible for all published content.
How AI May Be Used
AI may assist with tasks such as:
- Research organisation.
- Summarising lengthy public documents.
- Identifying themes or patterns within large volumes of information.
- Improving grammar, spelling and readability.
- Assisting with article structure.
- Drafting non-editorial content.
- Generating ideas for headlines or subheadings.
- Assisting with coding, website development and digital publishing tools.
AI is used as an editorial aid rather than an editorial decision-maker.
Human Editorial Review
A human editor reviews every article published by Knelstrom before publication.
Editorial decisions, including:
- What is published;
- how information is presented;
- which sources are used;
- What conclusions are drawn
- whether material meets our Editorial Standards,
Remain the responsibility of the Editor.
Verification of Information
AI-generated content can contain inaccuracies, outdated information or fabricated references.
For that reason, information suggested by AI is not accepted without verification.
Where practical, factual reporting is checked against reliable sources such as:
- legislation;
- parliamentary publications;
- government reports;
- official statistics;
- court judgments;
- public records;
- recognised academic research; and
- Direct statements from relevant organisations or individuals.
Primary sources are preferred wherever reasonably available.
News Reporting
AI is not used as an independent news source.
Articles published by Knelstrom are based on editorial research, verified information and the judgement of the Editor.
AI does not determine editorial priorities or make publishing decisions.
Opinion and Analysis
Opinion pieces published in Dispatches represent the views and analysis of the author.
While AI may assist with drafting, editing or improving readability, editorial opinions remain those of the author following human review.
Images and Visual Media
AI-generated images may occasionally be used for:
- conceptual illustrations;
- artistic projects;
- design work; or
- Where no authentic photograph exists.
Where an image is AI-generated or materially altered using AI, this will be identified where appropriate to avoid misleading readers.
Photographs used in news reporting should accurately represent the events or subjects being reported.
Transparency
We believe readers should understand how AI is used within our publication.
For that reason:
- AI is treated as an editorial assistance tool.
- Human editorial oversight is maintained throughout the publishing process.
- Editorial responsibility remains with Knelstrom.
- Significant factual claims are verified independently before publication.
Intellectual Property
Knelstrom respects copyright and intellectual property rights.
AI tools are not knowingly used to reproduce copyrighted works without permission.
Original journalism, photography and creative work remain the intellectual property of Knelstrom Ltd unless otherwise stated.
Continuous Review
Artificial intelligence is developing rapidly.
This policy may be updated as technology, industry standards and legal requirements evolve.
Our commitment to independent journalism, transparency and editorial accountability will remain unchanged.
Our Principle
Artificial intelligence can improve efficiency, but it cannot replace editorial judgement.
Knelstrom uses AI to support the production of journalism—not to replace the responsibility that comes with publishing it.
Every article ultimately reflects the judgement, accountability and editorial responsibility of the Editor.
